Donald E. Meyer, 82, of Jonesville, IN, passed away at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana on Monday, September 4, 2017. Don was born March 4, 1935 in Bartholomew County, IN, the son of Edward and Elsie (Schroeder) Meyer. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1953. Don married Hazel Marie Hackman on April 21, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church, Sauers. He worked at Cummins Engine Company for 30 years retiring in 1987.
Don was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U. S. Army.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, serving as past Elder, school board member and trustee. Don was also a member of the Diesel Workers Union, a past member of American Legion Post # 89. He also continued to farm with his sons, Gary and Mark and was a Pioneer Seed Representative. He took an active interest in the activities of his children and grandchildren, their sports and 4-H and loved spending time with family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife, Hazel of 60 years; daughter, Kay (Richard Hardin) Bottorff, 2 sons, Gary (Nancy) Meyer and Mark (Ashley) Meyer; grandchildren: Angie (Bryan) Jaquemai, Brittany (Aaron) Harden, Lauren (Ethan) Johns, Ethan Meyer, Mallory Meyer, Seth Meyer, Bailey Meyer, Henry Baxter, Leana Baxter, Presley Meyer and Nora Meyer, great grandchildren: Grace and Laney Jaquemai and Lila and Hunter Johns, and his sisters Lucille (Claude) Gaier and Evelyn (John) Horman, and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and sister, Helen Arnholt Cortner preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jonesville where Rev. Edgar Keinath will officiate. Visitation will be at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, on Friday, from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to time of service.
Mr. Meyer’s burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the American Legion #89, V.F.W. #1925, and associates all of Seymour.
