Lorene Otting, 84, of Seymour, IN, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Schneck Medical Center. Lorene was born on September 12, 1932 in Sneedville, TN, the daughter of Daniel Boone and Clara Belle Miser Horton, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Clearspring High School in 1950. Lorene attended Franklin College and Seymour Business College in Indiana and also attended Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. She began her professional work life as a private legal stenographer for Judge Gossman. Lorene was married to Donald A. Otting on February 7, 1954, in Junction City, KS. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1995.
As a businesswoman, she owned and operated two boutique apparel shops in Brownstown and Bedford. She managed the Brownstown License Branch and owned many business and farm properties in Jackson, Washington and Jennings counties.
Lorene was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour, a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jonesville and Clearspring Baptist Church.. Lorene enjoyed her life as a farm owner and operator and was avid in her attention to her garden, fruit trees and flowers.
Lorene thoroughly appreciated the opportunity to travel to many countries around the world. Her travels took her to Europe, China, Australia, the Caribbean, Cuba, Fiji and Canada.
She is survived by her children: Avril Celeste (David)Prusha, Sherry Dawn (Brian)Richards and David Arthur(Rhonda) Otting; grandchildren: Brandon Delp, Blayne Delp, Blair Richards, Leah Richards, Zodie Otting, and Zori Otting; her great-grandchild, Arthur Richards, her brother, Dr. Dan (Helen)Horton and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, an infant son, Donald F. Otting, her half-sisters; Isabelle Lynch, Mossy Watson, and Alice Williams preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Blomenberg officiating at Burkholder Funeral Chapel. Visitation will held from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service at St. Paulís Lutheran Cemetery in Jonesville.
